2021.11.27 11:41 iragbag Mobile App UX
One of the big reasons why I slowed down my use of Notion has been the lack of a good mobile app UX.
After jumping around from app to app (things, todoist, tick-tock etc.) for task management I am realising how much I miss Notion. But with the Mobile app UX, it's hard to go back.
Wondering if things have changed in the last few months. Are there any plans/roadmap they have disclosed that focuses on Mobile UX?

2021.11.27 11:41 Total-Reality5503 I just burned through the Alloy of Law - a follow-up to my review of the first Mistborn trilogy
After mostly enjoying the first mistborn trilogy, I knew it was just a matter of time before I'd move on to other novels by Sanderson. I had actually expected to take a little break first, but here I am back at it almost immediately. So I think it's safe to say that I count myself as a fan of Sanderson's work now!
Several people on this subreddit told me to check out Secret History as it would apparently address some of my criticisms of the trilogy, but by the sounds of it, there would be some spoilers for the second trilogy - so I decided to dive into that first.
TLDR: I would place Alloy of Law as my second-favourite book so far, just behind the Final Empire but ahead of Well of Ascension and the Hero of Ages.
First off, people who told me that Sanderson's prose improved in his later books were right - there weren't quite as many eye-catching clunkers ("the crowd crowded forward" etc) compared to the first trilogy.
I'm a sucker for westerns, so the setting and general vibe of the book were big points in favour of the book for me. Lawmen, bandits, the frontier... those western tropes mashed up with Sanderson's magic system provided a compelling backdrop for the novel.
The characters were another positive. Sure, there wasn't anyone who I found quite as compelling as TenSoon or Sazed, but the main trio (Wax, Wayne, and Marasi) were well-developed and I liked their interactions. It seems like some people find Wayne annoying, but I mostly liked his banter and the fact that despite being a goofball, he still has strengths that make him an important member of the team.
The fight scenes are as well-written as ever, and as usual I could always picture the choreography perfectly in my mind as if I was watching a tense shoot-out in an action film. Powers are used in creative an interesting ways.
The pacing and scope of the book are two of its biggest strengths, and these are the reasons why I place Alloy of Law ahead of books #2 and #3 of the original trilogy. There aren't repetitive internal monologues, and things move along at a fairly even pace. The threat isn't cosmic or world-ending - it's a bunch of bandits and their mysterious backer.
Having said all that, Alloy of Law isn't perfect. Now I'll get into spoilers:
Some plot points should have been introduced better. I'm mostly thinking of Miles and Wax's uncle here - both characters who play a big role in the plot, but who are kind of just... dropped into things. Wax recognizes Miles, a well-renowned lawman and former 'colleague' from the Roughs, but when this happens it's the first time we're ever hearing about him. On a similar note, at the end of the book we learn that Wax's uncle - the one who 'died' and left the estate to Wax - is actually still alive and for mysterious reasons he's the wealthy backer who's funding the bandits. I think this is a fine development, but we should have learned a bit more about the uncle earlier in the book. As it stands, it just feels a little abrupt.
There also isn't a ton of payoff in terms of the mysteries raised earlier in the book. The way the bandits are robbing the trains is presented as a big reveal, and it's... kind of interesting, I guess? But the true motivations for the kidnappings and the wealthy backers' ultimate aims are only vaguely gestured at, and I suppose the answers are given in the sequels. I wish there had been some more payoffs here - although I had issues with Well of Ascension and Hero of Ages, both books had some great twists that had been foreshadowed properly, or which were tied to the magic system in interesting ways. The Alloy of Law kind of sets up some big mysteries, but then the answers are either not particularly interesting (the bandits are using a big machine to grab the train cars and then they're shipping them down the canal... OK.) or they're paid off in future books.
Once again, I want to point out that I consider myself a fan, and I think I've been overall pleasantly surprised by Alloy of Law - it didn't quite reach the heights of the Final Empire for me, which is still a personal favourite, but it has a fun Western setting and a likeable cast of characters. I'm excited to see what comes next!

2021.11.27 11:41 TheGraveAndTheCold 24 [M4F] Louisiana looking for a nice girl
Hey I'm Josh . I'm from Louisiana . I just turned 24 on Halloween and I'm looking for someone who's nice and easy to talk to and be around . I don't have impossible standards . Looks aren't that important to me , I don't care what other people think I just need to find you attractive and you me . I'm heavy set so I'm not too worried about whether a girl is overweight or not , it doesn't bother me and it's not a deal breaker. I am 5'11 and I have curly ish brown hair and green eyes . I'm white . Location doesn't bother me as long as it's plausible we could see each other one day if we got to that point .

2021.11.27 11:41 Cosmic_Ishan Seeking advice for being in the place I hate so much
So how would be a better way to deal with being in a place which a person hates and despises most? Where he's not respected, not being admired, looked down upon, and being judged a lot and has no freedom at all.
To give better details I will vent, rant, and whine about my situation.
I am in that situation right now. So I joined University after so long and I just joined for the sake of degree because I need some credentials and documents for a better job and I have to stay here for like 3 years, being in a new city, new dorm with the roommates and peoples I don't like being around, wasting countless hours on the useless course, curriculum, etc. You may think that why did I enroll in this course if I don't like the curriculum. Well, the degree I want requires me to get through this and I have to spend so many useless hours on school with boring lectures and everything where there's not much freedom and also many threats as well. And I can't do anything about the threats because I have no proof and no power and won't get supported. I have to spend countless hours on all this useless stuffs being in the shithole I don't really like at all. I don't know how would I survive. Every single second 24/7 after college stress then coming to dorm having stress over the kind of people I have to live with and going out having to stress over the bad environment of a new city where I have to be careful a lot with everything that I even get scammed a lot and everything. I have severe social anxiety, I feel so much panic around everyone, I can't speak, open my mouth, gets so nervous and sweaty, and am being judged and looked down upon a lot by everyone. Everything, every second seems so stressful. I don't know how to handle this. I can't even follow my dream while being here, I don't have to get a degree but also have to gain some skills with self-learning. I just don't know how I could handle everything and create a better future. Everything seems unbearable, it seems unrealistic, I feel like I am not here, I don't belong here, I don't wanna be here, I don't wanna get near anywhere here. Everything seems tough. I feel like escaping and giving up every time but it's not worth it because without a degree and skills I won't be anywhere and I don't think I will be okay doing anything without working in this field in a better place like abroad. I have tried to search for other paths but nothing is working and I am trying since February. There's no other way I could follow to be where I wanna be and I have to go through this because there's no other way possible. The path that seems bearable is not affordable and this path is affordable yet unbearable. I feel so unlucky, so unprivileged, wish I had a better life or better financial situation or was born in a better place. Nothing seems right and everything seems unfair.
Thank you for listening. Just wanted to let it out. You can share anything if you want or say anything you want. I just wanted to let this out.

2021.11.27 11:41 TimboCA What are your favorite / reliable index funds for 5-10 year timeframe?
We are looking to move a chunk of money ($20k - $40k) into moderate risk/reward indexed funds over 5-10 years.
We are already going to move $20k from our terrible CD account into Treasury I Bonds so we have a low risk component of our portfolio.
We want to invest another $20-$40k in something that's going to grow at least 5%+ per year, on average, over the next decade.
Considering the pre-COVID tech boom, and the COVID tech boom, would you consider the Nasdaq's total indexed ETF (QQQ) to be superior to the one for S&P 500 (SPY) or for Dow Jones (DIA)?
Or would you consider it wiser to invest in something like Vanguard's total stock index fund (VTI / VTSAX) or the Wilshire 5000 index fund (WFIVX) instead?
We essentially want to set it and forget it for 5-10 years.

So I know there's a swamp monster and some armor added to the game. Is it appropriate in difficulty for when you first enter the swamp, or is it a lategame enemy?
My group and I are in endgame gear and if it's just going to be a curbstomp we'll probably save our first encounter for a new playthrough.
