2021.11.27 10:45 dividedblu Excursion ideas for Aruba

Hi all. Hoping to finally go on a 3x cancelled cruise in February. Anyone have any favorites they’ve done in Aruba? Seems to be the one stop I haven’t figured out yet.
We are in our late 30s so pretty much open to any type of activity.
Thanks in advance.

2021.11.27 10:45 ThomasHasThomas Steam games on a separate HDD - do i need to reinstal them when moving from WIN7 to WIN 10...?

Hello
I have a lot of games installed on my NON SYSTEM HDD (that means i dont have them installed on the same drive as my windows - Windows is on "C:" physical HDD and games are on "E:" physical HDD)

I currently have win 7 64 bit installed. I want to completely delete it, delete my C: drive, format it, wipe it clean and cleanly install Windows 10...

This of course wont directly affect my games since they are on a completely different HDD... But my worry is that all of them were installed on a WIN 7 system... Thus i assume (correctlY?) that each game has installed its WIN7 version....

And now suddenly the operating system will be WIN 10...? I assume (wrongly i hope...?) that to run the games under win 10 i will have to reinstal each game...?

Is this correct...? Or do games standardly instal "all operation systems versions" when you instal them... and thus it doesnt matter that i installed them when my running operating system was Win7, and they will run just ok even now when the running system is WIN10, without the need of any reinstalling?

Thank you

2021.11.27 10:45 choerry_bomb I LOVE Bach's Orchestral Suites

Time for yet another impulsive rant/gush about Bach because I love his music!!! I previously wrote a rant about the incredible Violin Sonata No. 3 in C major because I couldn't help it. I now can't help write my appreciation of the Orchestral Suites, four masterpieces.
I feel like the Overture movements of 1066-1069 get enough credit. We hear about the Badinerie from No. 2, the Air from No. 3, the Rejouissance from No. 4 sometimes, and practically zilch about No. 1 at all.
Following the score videos (on gerubach's YouTube channel) and really actively analyzing the counterpoint has been one of my most rewarding and overwhelming experiences. These pieces are definitely ones you have to maintain 100% focus to interpret accurately or you will get lost in their development. They are not meant to be background music, or literally any of Bach for that matter. They can also sound like a random jumble of musical noise to people who don't know how to listen to counterpoint.
I think I could write paragraphs upon paragraphs describing the compositional genius of each of the overtures, but I won't. The fugal sections contain seemingly infinite counterpoints and structural forms, displaying Bach's uncanny ability to write large sections that nearly verbatim repeat previous material and coherently and perfectly expand upon preceding material and maintain harmonic integrity
The first example of this compositional technique that really opened my eyes to Bach's genius was in the fugue (can it be called a fugue?) of Overture in the French Style (831). In the Orchestral Suites, each successive measure of the fugues only build on the pieces' development, and a satisfying and transcendental climax is reached at the end of each fugue. My first time listening to the OSs I started with No. 1 and the arrival of the overture recap section sent chills down my back. The fugal section was also so beautifully composed I actually wanted to cry - it is the only other time I have genuinely come close to crying listening to music, the other piece being the Chaconne.
It's extremely helpful to have score-videos to follow since there are so many voices in each of the OSs, and recordings often alter the original rhythms and add or omit trills. I have to stress how important - and how involved - it is to analyze everything that has passed, everything that happens at the moment, and to think of what could possibly come next all at the same time when watching/listening to the overtures, because they are large-ish ternary pieces; you inhale in the beginning and exhale at the end with rarely any break. The first dotted section and the recap of this form often have similar motivic material, and you have to think about how the recap answers the preceding exposition+fugue and comes to a strongly justified resolution. Throughout the piece, I would insist that it's important never to feel like the music ever stops moving or to ever think of it as phrases/sections. Of course, you could define clear sections within the fugues where the bass line stops and picks up again, but you must maintain an idealistic mindset to hear how every successive note expands upon the last. One last tip I have, for the first time listening to these complex gems, is to mainly listen to the top and bottom voices, except in sections where a single voice has a melodic line and successive voices enter one after another; then listen to how each interacts. But for every movement of the suites, focusing mainly on the top and bottom voices is a completely valid way of absorbing the compositional structures.
The Overture of OS No. 1 in C major for me was the most difficult to understand, but it slaps the hardest contrapuntally and harmonically. It could've been written 100 years in the future. The following movements, as with most of Bach's suites, employ the musical language of the first movement in several smaller dances of different styles with varying meters and tempi filled with imagination and charm. I almost wished that this suite ended with a gigue or another unique type of finale like the other three, but I actually find its sequence very coherent and satisfying. I feel that a faster last movement would make the suite feel somewhat uneven/awkward.
OS No. 2 in B minor is the most popular and, in my opinion, the most charismatic. I love the overture and fugue motifs and the overall elegant, dark character of the suite. The end of the fugue never fails to give me chills. I love the jubilant Badinerie, but the Polonaise/Double is my favorite, it's really a gorgeous ternary orchestral piece on its own. The Rondeau is one of the most clever dance movements I've ever heard. The Bourrée 1 and 2 are addicting. It's worth noting that this suite is the only one whose overture recap is in a different meter, being in triple meter, while the exposition of all the overtures is in quadruple meter. Rest in peace to the lips and lungs of the flutists who play this suite. I sometimes complain about there being only one flute partita, but then I remember this piece.
OS No. 3 in D major, what an inspired suite. The overture, in my opinion, is the most well-composed, with only two large and very similar sections in the fugue that flow so seamlessly. I fell in love with the Air upon the first time hearing it as a child. Hearing it in the context of this suite has actually given it so much more depth! An upbeat and brilliantly written pair of Gavottes follows the serene Air. A brief Bourrée precedes the dignified Gigue finale, which sounds to me like gratitude to God.
OS No. 4 in D major's overture is exceptional in its sparing motivic material, and unlike the others, I've found I can pretty easily follow this one while doing something like unloading the dishwasher due to its more contrapuntally explicit nature. The Rejouissance is one of the most thrilling movements in all the suites. This suite curiously doesn't have a slow movement, and neither does No. 1, I just realized.

Hello everyone, Croesus is a great boss and all but I feel like the drops could've been handled differently. What I mean by that is that it drops T90 magic tank armour for some reason when it could've just dropped a fishing and hunter offhand instead which would've made so much more sense.

2021.11.27 10:45 ikillmutantdolphins Trying to create a character who "sold his soul" how can i make this work? (New to dnd)

Hello, im new to dnd and im creating a character who "sold" or "traded" his soul for power.
I haven't finished making him yet, but right now i think he'll be an old warlock around 70 years old who made a deal with a fiend or deity or evil spirit or something like that for great power and lost something important in the process like his soul. This would be the driving force of the character, he was searching for a way to regain his soul for many decades and now that he met the party he finally has a chance to do it by teaming up with a young strong adventure party. I was thinking up of consequences for losing your soul and thought that maybe since he lost his soul, when he dies he'll turn into a gross mindless ghoul and go to hell? (I've read that some fiend monsters are people who died and turned into them) so him fearing for that fate and wanting to prevent it could make a good common goal with the rest of the party. (We're thinking of making the god/demon that took his soul into the main villain or atleast one of the main villains)
But yeah, the thing is i dont know if that would work... Do dnd souls work like that? Can you have a body and personality without a soul? He's suppost to be a classy charismatic and likeable old man so im not sure if it would work. My dm says that all i need is to think up of a good way to implement my concept and already accepted a homebrew feat i wanted for my character and tons of reflavoring for him too. I just need help making him function. How would you go around making a character like this? Is it possible?
Hopefully someone gives, me some ideas.
Thank you for reading.

2021.11.27 10:45 Oakwine I had a dream about UDisc

The dream version of the app had an augmented reality mode like Pokémon Go, so when you were viewing the map for a hole, you could view the woods through the phone screen and the basket would be lit up all the way to the sky. With this you could locate the basket even when it was obscured by hills or trees.

I just installed 351elec for the first time. I added my games library and started playing Final Fantasy Origins for the PS1. Even with the volume wheel turned all the way up the actual sound seems to be at half or less. I plugged in headphones and I am able to hear fine as long as the volume is turned all the way up. I was previously using ArkOS and had no issues with sound. Does anyone else have this issue with 351elec?

2021.11.27 10:45 NothingRecent7834 Med student (F23) with a Chief Complaint of boyfriend (M27) that often bails out of the date

I (23f) am currently dating my boyfriend (27F) for almost 3 years now. LDR since COVID prior to that we saw each other every other weekend or so.
Sorry for the format. On mobile for this.
I’m a first year med student so you can imagine the amount of studying and classes I have. While my boyfriend just got promoted to a high position in his job. At the same time he’s been occupying himself with music lessons. Along with plans of renovating their house.
So in short both of us are rather busy.
I try to make time to the point that when there aren’t exams or “case days” (where I have to study for my life to discuss about the patient and to answer the doctors questions) I try to make plans with him. Even invited him multiple times just to be on discord while I study for us to be in each other’s company.
However, for the past few weeks he’s been standing me up or just simply bailing out on me without any prior notice. He has done this before especially with major plans and I’ve accepted it with some reluctance.
His excuses have ranged from family emergency to an episode of depression (which I have already urged him to see a psychiatrist for). He does things last minute and usually forgets to update me on things.
Now. I’ve noticed that he really hasn’t made up for any of those. Though he says he’s trying. But if I think about it, it feels as if he’s taking me for granted and simply doesn’t have me on his priority list. So I feel neglected and as if I’m the only one that’s trying to make things work.
Besides those things, he has lied to me before about getting me presents (on special occasions). I don’t think this was a big issue but he had promised it and I had clarified it with him multiples times. This way so that I can be certain that my effort to get him a present would be reciprocated. However, it turns out he didn’t have any of those plans and recently explained that he sees these gifts as “materialistic” and “meaningless” since I could simply purchase these things by myself or through my family. I was shocked by that since I didn’t care what the economical value of the item was. It’s the sentiment and thought that I found to be of value. He’s given me a couple of old shirts of his that I’ve kept throughout the years and is still in my closet. I even use them at times when I miss him.
We’re somewhat in the serious stage since he’s met and introduced himself to my family. It’s to the point where he messages them every now and then. I haven’t personally met his mother due to COVID but I’ve sent her small presents whenever I do send him something.
This is my first ever serious relationship so it’s giving me anxiety and doubts.
So my question now is, what do I do about this? Are these red flags? How do I address this to him without coming off as needy?
TLDR: Med student (F23) having issues on how to progress and maintain LDR with a boyfriend (M27) that’s making her feel neglected and down the priority lane.
